The 6 Kalima are a very important part of every Muslim faith. However, it is necessary for all Muslims to understand the concept of these 6 Kalimas as they teach the most important and fundamental truths in Islam. The 6 Kalima are the primary beliefs of Muslims all around the world. They practice these beliefs and contain the basic concept in their lives. All the 6 Kalima are verses of Quran. In this article, we will discuss these 6 kalima with their English transliteration and Tafseer.

All 6 Kalima

  1. Kalima Tayyaba (Purity)
  2. Kalima Shahada (Testimony)
  3. Kalima Tamjeed (Glorification)
  4. Kalima Tauheed (Unity)
  5. Kalima Astaghfar (Penitence)
  6. Kalima Rad-e-Kufr (Rejecting Disbelief)

1st Kalima: Tayyaba (Purity)

1st Kalima Transliteration

There is no God Except ALLAH and Muhammad (PBUH) is the Messenger of ALLAH

1st Kalima Tafseer

kalima-e-Tayyaba is the first pillar of Islam. It is not mentioned in the Quran together. La illah ha ill-Allah is mentioned various times separately and Muhammad ur Rasul ul Allah is also mentioned separately in Surah Al-Fath : 29. Both are not mentioned together because it is assumed to be taken by us Muslims together when we witness that there is no god except Allah and Muhammad (PBUH) is His Messenger.

It is narrated that Jaabir ibn Abdullah (RA) said: I heard that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “The best zikr is Laa ilaha illa-Allah (there is no god except Allah) and the best dua is Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah).”

If anyone comes on the Day of judgment who has said La ilaha illa-Allah sincerely with the purpose of winning Allah’s pleasure, Allah will make Hellfire (Jahanum) forbidden for him.” Tirmizi :15

2nd Kalima: Shahada (Testimony)

2nd Kalima Transliteration

I bear witness that there is no lord but Allah, He is alone & has no partner and I bear witness that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is His servant and Messenger.

2nd Kalima Tafseer

The 2nd kalima is called the shahada or ‘Carriage witness to faith’. When we recite this kalima shahada we declare that Allah is the one and only God, he has no partner and Muhammad (ﷺ) is His messenger. It also helps us accept that Allah is the complete power and none other is equal to or greater than Allah. The main thing we should avoid is Shirk and this kalima stops us from Shirk. Shirk means deification or worship of anyone or anything other than Allah.

Allah says: He will forgive all sins but not shirk.

When we recite this kalima Shahada, we control out the following 4 things:

  1. Shirk
  2. Shak
  3. Tashbeeh
  4. Taalil

3rd Kalima: Tamjeed (Glorification)

3rd Kalima Transliteration

Glory be to Allah & praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah and God is Greatest and there is no power or strength except in Allah, the Most High, the Great.

3rd Kalima Tafseer

The third kalima is one of the best ways to praise Allah and remember Him. Remembrance of ALLAH is one of the primary and mandatory acts to be performed by all Muslims. ALLAH said  In Surah Al-Baqarah: 152-153 :  “So Remember Me, I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not forget Me“. It was narrated by Ibn Abi Awfa who said: “A man came to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and said: I cannot learn anything of the Quran; So, teach me something that I can say rather than reciting the Quran. Prophet (PBUH) said: ‘Say: SubhanAllah, Alhamdulilah, La ilaha ill-Allah, Allahu Akbar, La hawla wa la quwwata illa Billahil aliy al azim (Glory be to Allah & praise be to Allah, there is no god but Allah and God is Greatest and there is no power or strength except in Allah, the Most High, the Great).” (Sunan An Nasa’i: 924)

However, in order to achieve the blessings of ALLAH Almighty through His remembrance, we should recite the 3rd kalima as a part of daily Azkaar.

4th Kalima: Tauheed (Unity)

4th Kalima Transliteration

There is no praise of worship except Allah. He has no partner and he is Alone. To Him belongs the Kingdom and to Him is praise. He gives lives and causes death and He is the One who never dies. He is the Lord of glory and glory. Your honor is in His hand is goodness, and He is Able to do all things.

4th Kalima Tafseer

  • All the Praise only Belongs to Him
  • He is the most Powerful and He is Able to do all things. This World and the other World after Death belong to Him. To the disbelievers, he gives everything in the world easily. But for a believer until and unless they are accountable for their actions and life.
  • Protect you from the biggest sins
  • The person who recites 100 times in a day, he would be reward as if they release 10 slaves, he would receive 100 blessings, and 100 sins will be removed. (Sahih Muslim: 2691)

5th Kalima: Astaghfar (Penitence)

5th Kalima Transliteration

I ask forgiveness from Allah, my Lord, for every sin I have committed intentionally or wrongly, secretly or publicly and I repent to Him, from the sin I know and from the sin I don’t know. By Him, I know that You are the Knower of the unseen, the cover of faults and the Forgiver of sins. There is no power nor strength except in God, the Most High, the Great. ٕ

5th Kalima Tafseer

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: The man who Jannah is guarantee would ask for Allah’s forgiveness a hundred times in a day. This same message was repeated in (Sahih Muslim : 2702) In another Sahih hadith it was reported that the Prophet (PBUH) said “Show mercy and you will receive mercy. Allah will forgive you when you forgive.” (Al-Adab Al Mufrad : 380)

  • Do Good, Have Good
  • Show Mercy and Receive Mercy
  • Give Respect and you will be respected

6th Kalima: Radd-e-Kufr (Rejecting Disbelief)

6th Kalima Transliteration

Oh Allah, I seek refuge in You from associating something with You that I know about, and I ask Your forgiveness for what I do not know, so that I may repent of it and disavow myself of disbelief and polytheism.
